Self-Leveling Underlayments
Self-leveling underlayments are very effective cementitious materials that we use to flatten, smooth or level floors that are in rough unsuitable condition prior to the application of conventional floor-covering materials. They are typically around 4,200PSI in compressive strength and quick curing to allow for subsequent flooring installations in as little as 16hours after the application. They require mechanical preparation of the substrate by either grinding or shot-blasting and a primer to be applied before mixing, pouring and finishing of the product. To ensure best results we survey the floor elevations with a laser and set grades according to the required tolerances.
Cement-based Underlayment
These underlayments are highly polymerized and as such are the products of choice for demanding commercial projects. They have the ability to be installed thick or thin while providing a very smooth and flat surface for floor-coverings to bond to quickly.
Gypsum Underlayment
These underlayments are ideal to be placed over heated floor systems due to their excellent thermal characteristics. Gypsum underlayments are also commonly used to top precast planks in residential applications because of their relatively low price compared to the cement-based materials. Gypsum has better fire and sound ratings than cement so it is often specified to cover plywood floors in multi-unit, multi-level wood frame construction.
Self-Leveling Concrete Toppings
These self-leveling materials are designed to be left as “stand-alone” traffic bearing floors as heavy-duty alternatives to conventional floor-covering materials. These toppings can be stained, polished or coated with many treatments available on the market. They are typically installed similarly to underlayments but with upgraded bonding agents and strategically placed saw-cuts recommended to reduce potential cracking. The manufactures typically design these products to reach above 6,000PSI compressive strengths to handle the harder wearing conditions and more consistent colours for the required ascetics as a design element.
